Tavares, Fla. (July 3, 2018) –Lake County School Board gave unanimous approval to open a new K-8 charter school in downtown Avalon Park Village, a new live, learn, work and play development being built in Tavares.
The new school, Pinecrest Academy Tavares, is scheduled to open in 2020 for children up to sixth grade. At that time, 424 students will be learning at the school. Over the following five years, the school will add additional grades and capacity with 906 student stations by 2025.
“Avalon Park has a great relationship with Pinecrest Academies and is one of the nation’s leading charter school operators,” says Beat Kahli, CEO, Avalon Park Group. “Schools are an important part of the decision on where people wanting to live and having a school such as this will make Avalon Park Village even more attractive.”
Pinecrest Academy Tavares will be the company’s second charter school in Lake County. During its first year in operation, Pinecrest Lakes Academy in Minneola scored the highest percentage of students in Lake County passing the FSA English language exams in fifth and sixth grade and math exams in sixth grade.
The school’s fifth-graders had the 15th highest percentage of passing students on the science exam of any school in Florida.
Miami-based Academica, which operates Pinecrest Academies in Florida, currently operates more than 100 charter schools in six states. Three of its schools rank in the top 50 schools in the country, according to U.S. News and World Report.
“This will be our third school to open in an Avalon Park development and we expect it to excel as the others have,” says Dr. Judy Marty of Pinecrest. “We look forward to being a part of this community and providing a great education to its residents and the people who live around Avalon Park Village.”
